Los Angeles–(work wire) – Beverly Center exclusively showcases black designers and black-owned brands with its one-of-a-kind new experience in colorful luxury retail from June 17 to July 23. Sponsored by Maison Black and The Black Fashion Movement, EMERGE In Color will exclusively sell products created by black designers and black-owned fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands from across the country. Nearly 50 designers and brands representing fashion, beauty, eyewear, home goods and more will be showcased in a beautifully designed space on the seventh floor of the popular shopping destination.
EMERGE in Color was created by Senior Vice President of Leasing Laurie McGee-Curtis Taubman to improve retail opportunities for black businesses.
“My dream with EMERGE in Color has been to bring together the highest caliber of black and emerging designers and black owned brands to help them reach new levels of success in traditional retail,” said McGee Curtis. “By doing so, we not only bring their brands to life in the physical space, but we also provide our customers with exceptional merchandise that can’t be found anywhere else in the Los Angeles market.”
Maison Black founder and creative director Tori Nichel, and CEO and founder of The Black Fashion Movement, Frenchye Marie Harris, has more than 20 years of experience in design, luxury retail marketing, marketing and public relations managing EMERGE In Color. Curated by EMERGE In Color, the founders are changing culture, disrupting industry complacency with an accelerated mission to bridge community and commerce with luxury shopping experiences that celebrate, highlight and sell black-owned, black-designed products.
“Our shared vision is to create luxury retail experiences for black designers and black owned brands to create economic opportunity and long-term sustainability in an industry where it is often overlooked and underrepresented,” Tori Nechel said. “By providing inclusion and equal opportunity for black designers and black-owned brands in the retail space, we ensure sustainability and help these companies stand the test of time.”
With $1.7 trillion in black-owned purchasing power in the United States, less than 10% of black-owned fashion and accessory brands and less than 1% of black-owned brands are sold at US retailers. The emergence of Taubman’s EMERGE sponsored by Maison Black and The Black Fashion Movement is changing this narrative.
“The unavailability of black-owned brands and products that serve the African-American community significantly impacts the buying path of African Americans,” Harris noted. “Creating in-store opportunities for customers to touch, feel and experience new products while shopping can be essential to building long-term loyalty and have a significant economic impact on brands.”
The EMERGE In Color initiative sponsored by Maison Black and The Black Fashion Movement has brought together some of the most exciting black-owned brands from markets across the country.
