Celebrities who went to school in Warrington

Warrington is home to many famous faces.

While you may be well aware of the celebrities coming from the city – do you know which schools they attended?

Lots of celebrities were educated on our doorstep and may have found their love of music or acting behind the school gates.

Here are some famous people who were educated in Warrington:

Tim Carrey

This actor has been haunting many of our nightmares after portraying the clown Pennywise in the ’90s miniseries, It.

However, he is also known for starring in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Hunt for Red October.

He has even received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the industry.

You may be familiar with his films – but did you know that Carrey went to Lymm High School in the 1950s?

This TV Presenter, Voice Actor, and Radio Producer was born and raised in Warrington.

Arguably he is best known for hosting The Virgin Radio Breakfast show.

However, did you know that he also spent a short time at Boteler Grammar School?

According to his biography Not what you thinkhe was expelled for fighting with his physics teacher.

He also attended Padgate High School

George Duckworth

If you are a long time cricket fan, you may recognize this local legend.

Duckworth is considered by many to be the best cricketer out of Warrington.

Born in 1901, he lived in Warrington all his life and attended Butler Grammar School

He made his England debut at the age of 23, which was just the start of his 15-year career.

Keri Katuna

Warrington residents will be all too familiar with Kerry Katona.

She is best known for being a member of the girl group Atomic Kitten and as a TV personality.

She met the late Warrington Wolves player, George Kay, at Padgett High School — they even had a child together before they split in 2017.

Gemma Prescott

While she was born in Cornwall, Gemma Prescott was educated in Warrington.

Gemma is a Paralympic champion who has two bronze medals under her belt.

She won medals at the 2012 London Paralympics as well as the 2016 Games in Rio.

Prescott also got a taste of silver at the 2016 European Championships.

Footballer, Jesse Lingard, went to Beamont High School which is now known as Beamont Collegiate Academy.

He also attended St Margaret’s Primary School in Orford.

He currently plays for Manchester United.

The physical education teacher who coached the Beaumont football team he played on described him as a “very humble” young man who never let his talent go to his head.

George Sampson

This British Got Talent dancer went to Birchwood Community High School.

The dancer won the talent show in 2008, when he was still a student and school.

George has not forgotten his roots and has since returned to school to attend various award shows.

Dancing isn’t all that Sampson is known for, as he also portrayed bad boy Kyle Stack on Waterloo Road.

James Chester

Birchwood Community High School has apparently produced a lot of talent as James Chester also went there as a child.

The professional footballer currently plays for Stoke City, and played for the Welsh national team.

Warren Brown

During his high school years, Warren expressed his desire to become a professional Thai boxer.

However, his career took a completely different turn and he made a name for himself in the acting world.

He has starred in Shameless, Hollyoaks, and hit Luther on BBC One.

Before high school, the actor also attended Bewsey Lodge Primary.

Martin Roberts

Home Under the Hammer Star, Martin Roberts attended Stockton Heath Elementary School. Later in his life, he also went to Appleton Grammar School.

Speaking to a national newspaper, Roberts said he had a hard time at school, especially with bullies.

He recently released a book called Sadsville that encourages children to regulate their emotions and talk through any trauma they experience at home or at school.
