These stars prove that rescue dogs have a lot to love

Manila, Philippines – Getting a dog can be one of the best decisions you’ll make in your life, but what many people don’t realize is that they don’t always have to choose a purebred puppy or a designer dog.

The best option may be to adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue organization. When you adopt, you give a dog a well-deserved past with the family while making room in shelters for more dogs that need it.

While most people still turn to breeders and pet stores to find their pets, more and more parents are adopting the fur rather than shopping – including a number of local celebrities.

These are just some of the stars who have proven that rescue dogs have just as much love to give as any purebred animal:

Evangelista heart

As an ambassador for the Philippine Animal Welfare Association (PAWS), Hart has embraced her fair share of animal rescues. To date, her group includes three cats, five dogs and even bore his name Bambino. It’s safe to say that her pets are now living their best lives and are better cared for, well dressed, and probably smelling better than the rest of us. The panda is the heart’s favorite, a charming black and white roll who was rescued from Nasogbo, Batangas.

Sharon Konita

Megastar first met her rescue dog, an 8-year-old stray, while filming virgin is back in Olongapo. At the time, she was saddened by the news that her friend, the late makeup artist Fanny Serrano, had suffered a stroke, and the dog had become her “sunbeam.” She named him Bowie, after star character Marco Gumbau in the film. After only months of research, rehabilitation and medical treatment I was able to bring the dog home in time for Christmas.

Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez

Carla is a big animal lover, looks after veterinary treatments for animals in need and uses her platform to call out irresponsible pet owners and animal abusers. She first adopted a dog from PAWS in 2018 to her grandmother who had Alzheimer’s disease. Two years later, she and Tom adopted two aspen, Wing and Fly, to maintain Carla’s Jack Russell Terrier Patches Company. Unfortunately, Wing passed away in November 2020.

Iza Calzado

Iza and husband Ben Wintle adopted their dog Roger from the Pawssion Project shelter in 2021. The couple already had several dogs before but decided their next pet would be a rescue. It was love at first sight when they met Roger at the shelter. “He looked at me as if he knew me,” Issa said in a video shared by The Pawssion Project.

Joey and Angie have been welcoming the animals for years, and now their rescues are too many to count. The couple rescued stray dogs and cats, as well as horses that had been abandoned during a subsequent eruption. They bring most of their rescued animals to their farm in Batangas, where Joey and Angie have set up private spaces for the animals to roam and play.

Fernando Zobel de Ayala

The billionaire and his family have always loved dogs, but decided after a visit to PAWS that they would focus on adoption rather than buying from breeders. As of 2020, he counted nine rescue dogs – four at his home in Manila and five on his farm. One of them, Bonito, is a three-legged aspen.

Thinking of buying a dog? Consider these things first before making the big decision

If these celebrities inspired you to get a rescue dog, there are a number of shelters you can check out. There is PAWS, where many of these stars have found their warps. There is the Pawssion Project, which has shelters in Bacolod and Bulacan, and Lara’s Ark, which has shelters in Mandaluyong and Batangas. You can also check out the local pound in your city, where many animals are euthanized if they haven’t been adopted for a while. – Rappler.com
