Former News 4 anchor Delaine Mathieu shares the latest on the real estate business

“My sister is a very successful realtor in North Texas. It felt like I was ticking a lot of boxes. I knew I wanted to be self-employed. I knew I only wanted to be around great people. I still wanted to help people. It was an easy transition to get out of the news. I also knew my other passion was architecture and design and it seemed like a natural fit.”

How has the experience been so far?

“It’s very difficult when you’re competing with thousands of agents out there. And I think there’s a misconception that since I’m on the air it’s going to be very easy to get all kinds of work. I had to win over every client. I had to know what I’m doing, so I invested.” Really into a lot of education. It was work. It was really work. I embrace that. I rise to challenges. It’s very rewarding, and I really enjoy not having to wear heels every day.”

What do you like most about your new job?

“I love meeting new people, coming into their homes and meeting them without a camera over my shoulder. One of the first dates I ever had was a beautiful woman who was going through a difficult divorce. She was crying. She needed help. She needed to sell her house because that’s what she can live on. If she was There’s a camera, there would be no way for you to talk to me. It’s nice getting to know people on a completely different level.”

How does your new job compare to the news?

“The pace is a little different. I’m my own boss. I set my hours, my vacation, how hard it is, and what I have to do to reach my goal. The difference is where the news is a team effort. In real estate, it’s up to you. The news is very structured in your day, and you’re working In company. Don’t take a vacation in February, May, July or November because these are the most popular ratings. Both of my daughters’ birthdays are in February, which is the most important rating period in the news in my opinion. Now, I’m into track meetups and events. I’m totally immersed in their lives When I haven’t been able to for years.”

Do you miss the editing room?

“I miss people. In general, the people you work with become like family. When you leave the TV news, you don’t interact as much as you do every day. I miss them. I miss the hearts and souls of that newsroom. .Producers, editors, reporters, reporters, people you felt you knew on a cellular level. I miss that part. I don’t miss being on the air, and I don’t miss the hustle and bustle. There’s literally nothing left for me unchecked in the TV news. I’ve had a great career. I’m in a great place, and I know they are.”

Matthew says she is still in touch with her former anchor, Randy Beamer. She told MySA that they send text messages now and then and comment on each other’s social media posts.

As for the next step, Mathieu says she is “absolutely satisfied with the path I’m on now.” She says the future is bright and looks good.
