Furniture and decoration giant Bedeck is building a new store in Magheralin – Armagh I

A new store is planned to be built in Magheralin.

Bedeck Ltd, which specializes in bedding, baths, home furnishings, décor and other accessories, already operates a unit in its factory on Lurgan Street.

But now the 0wned family business intends to demolish it and build a new outlet unit — to house an extensive collection — that would be more than four times the size of the existing store.

Bedeck is widely traded throughout the UK, Ireland and around the world, but at 187 Lurgan Road, Magheralin, they have their home base.

An application for the development was submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration last year.

Now the company has given the green light to the exciting new retail development after board members approved the officials’ recommendations.

The current store – a prefab building – offers 1,400 square feet of floor space, and the new factory outlet extends to more than 6,300 square feet.

The plan is to tear down the existing retail unit and start again from scratch, building this new, much larger one-story project in its place. The existing car park will be expanded and rearranged to provide more parking spaces for customers and visitors as well.

Planning officials received no objections to the development, which is located on a site with the main plant immediately to the northeast and residential development to the southwest.

They found it “consistent with the local area plan and all relevant planning policies”.

The company has now been in operation for more than 70 years and has come from humble beginnings to become a major player in the field of soft fabrics and furnishings.

Its success and origins date back to 1951 and to Alexander Erwin, who began beautifying napkins.

According to the company’s website: “By stitching embellishment into the ordinary, turn a skill into a service that thousands of people around the world now rely on to make their homes one of a kind.

“He has given his clients time and choice, and it is in our ethos to do the same.

“So, whether you’re shopping online or in-store, in our outlets or flagship stores, you can be sure Bedeck always puts our customers first.”

The app is now paving the way for what many consider a welcome investment and boost to the local economy.
