The beauty of the antique furniture market is that nothing ever goes out of style – trends come and go but eventually find their way to relevance when the next generation rediscovers and revives them. If my colleague Hannah Martin taught us anything using her object classes, it’s always there Something Retro is having a design moment. Our interiors are a reflection of our inner world, and provide a window into the most intimate part of ourselves. Even international pop stars like Harry Styles draw inspiration from home life while daring to think outside the four walls that surround us.
According to 1stDibs, the best-selling antiques and antiques categories that saw significant growth in order volume in the first quarter of this year were dining room chairs, wall lights, sconces, chandeliers and pendants. The most searched terms included Eames, Knoll, Thonet, Pierre Chapo, Cassina, Nakashima, Noguchi, and Murano, along with styles such as Art Deco, Space Age, brutalist, and midcentury.
During the pandemic, there has been an increase in interest in CSKA chairs, Togo sofas, and Murano mushroom lamps. To find out the current trend for the quarter, seven of the best sellers of antiques across the country consulted about the newest selling products from their inventory to date. These collectible items are selling out so fast that they can barely keep them in stock – act fast if you’re looking to get one of your own.
USM Haller units
“I’ve noticed that in the past year, more people are leaning towards items that are made to last, timeless, modern, and elegant in design. I feel that the more we equip the USM Haller unit, it goes really fast, especially the colorful ones. We have a few units USM ourselves, and we love them.” –Jessica Lee, founder renew
Ettore Sottsass Mandarin كراسي Chairs
‘Bold and vibrant chairs have been on the move very quickly in our store. We recently had a number of Ettore Sottsass Mandarin chairs. There are always a few available on the market because they are mass produced by Knoll, but the ones available are always in very faded colors. Bolder, more Memphis-styled, they were all sold out within minutes of being listed.”—Jonathan Sanchez Opis, Founder Studio Primaried

sofa bed
“In terms of outsourcing requests, we’ve had an unusually high number of clients asking us to help them find unique sofa beds this year! I’m not sure if they’re low-key Airbnb planners or optimistically trying to make their homes more guest-friendly for a post-COVID world ( wood ways). Either way, it was fun to find these for clients. We have one great classic sofa in stock now.”Laura Weiser, Founder Studio Bitsu
ambu shelves
“I’ve always had a cult following, and we’ve seen it trend in the past few years, but it seems the interest in space age furniture is still growing. I bought an ambu shelf from the store recently, and it has become one of my most shared posts.”– Jonathan Sanchez Opis, founder of Primaried Studio
Bruno Rei chairs
“Simple and elegant dining chairs like the Bruno Rey chair or the Magnus Olesen 8000 Serie chair are larger than they’ve ever been in the States, and people are making them with all kinds of table designs, proving the chair’s versatility.”– Daniel and Megan Larvey King, founders Homeland Union
zig zag
“Waves and wobbles are still going strong, like those rippling martini glasses we don’t seem to keep in stock, this undulating side table and matching coffee table (half of the set is already sold out), and this amazing full length corrugated mirror that has been in dozens of shopping carts on least this week!”-Laura Weiser, founder of Betsu Studio
Knoll Pollock Office Chairs
“Another item that is selling out very quickly for us is the Knoll Pollock office chair. Now that more people are working remotely at home, it is important to invest in a comfortable and stylish office chair. We usually sell out these within a few days.”– Jessica Lee, founder of Renewfinds
chicle sofas
“Chicolate sofas made a comeback last year, and ended up being reissued by Herman Miller. I thought it would be hard to sell vintage once that happened, but all of our re-released Chiclets sold out within minutes. Like Mandarin chairs, they have a silhouette Really fun and special, and those that sell out fast are always in a vibrant color.”– Jonathan Sanchez Opis, founder of Primaried Studio

Cabrane lamps
“Obviously the Cabrane lamp isn’t going anywhere either. They’re never available in our store for more than a day or two. This has kind of become a Home Union staple, and we still get orders for them all the time.”– Daniel and Megan Larvey King, founders of Home Union
Tube servers
“I also had this yellow tube server in the store for about a year, which finally sold out a few months ago. Since then, I’ve bought more, and they’ve all been sold out in my store before I can post them online. A lot of people have asked me what If I were to go into more. I think that definitely speaks volumes about the interest in playful silhouettes, vibrant colors and a space age moment.”– Jonathan Sanchez Opis, founder of Primaried Studio
sculptural candlesticks
“I’ve noticed people are turning away from the craze for sculptural candle holders and collecting more sculptural candle holders, which is a long-term investment. This pair hits both ways, and I’m surprised they’re still in stock! I have a couple of faux marble holders in my house and I’m obsessed with them” .– Laura Weiszer, founder of Betsu Studio
Pipistrello lamps
“We’ve noticed that people are always asking if we have smaller prints or floor lamps available. For some reason, floor lamps are usually harder to find than table lamps. Another piece that’s not for sale, but one we’re getting a lot of attention on is the Pipistrello Special. Us. This lamp is an eclectic piece that can definitely enhance any room.”– Jessica Lee, founder of Renewfinds
sofas togo
“We still get frequent emails and calls for Togo sofas all the time. No designer sofa with three seater or larger stays in the store for long. With the world having some form of supply issue, being able to get something now is attractive. Many companies are backed up for a year or more for sofa orders!”– Daniel and Megan Larvey King, founders of Home Union
