A new concept of co-working and fitness opens at Uptown Minneapolis

The Wilderness is the premiere fitness and teamwork venue in Minneapolis with a well-balanced focus on mental and physical health.

Minneapolis – A newly opened co-working and fitness concept in the Twin Cities Uptown neighborhood.

Tucked away under CVS off Lake Street in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis, there’s a hidden gem.

“We are a space in the heart of Uptown that combines co-working, function and fitness,” said Bobby Burns, who co-owns the place with his friend Ben Wells.

The Wilderness is a space for anyone who may need a break from working at home, commuting to the office, or just a creative looking for inspiration.

“The co-working space is for anyone who can work remotely, you know, if we’ve seen anything over the past few years, a lot of people can work remotely, and a lot of companies are doing really well that way,” Burns said.

Burns says the idea came about after a chance encounter with Wells when they met up with an American Ninja Warrior training.

The space includes a wide range of quiet workspaces.

“Whether it’s through our open office membership, where you sit anywhere you like every day, a dedicated desk or the private desks we offer,” he said.

There is also space for special events.

“These are also amenities for our members, so we have the theater, we have a game room here,” he said.

A fitness center is just steps away from each work station.

“We have yoga classes a few days each week,” he said. “We have practical fitness classes a few evenings, and we also have a break class on Fridays during lunch hours,”

The space officially opened on April 16, 2022, providing a thriving opportunity in a neighborhood that has bounced back after the 2020 civil unrest and pandemic.

“I think it’s huge for this field to just bring something that really focuses on physical and mental health as a core value of its concept,” Burns said.

He says the goal was to provide an accessible and functional space.

“Whether I was just starting out or I was at a very advanced level, then I removed the barriers as well,” he said.

In a community environment, where people can work, play and communicate at the same time.

“Even if you were to rock out for two minutes during your workday or take a break class during lunch, the impact that it could have, especially on your mental health, would be pretty massive,” Burns said.

Anyone who signs up in April will get a free month-long membership for co-working and fitness if they donate an indoor plant, according to the owners.

All first-time guests receive a free daily pass that includes an open shared work desk, yoga room, gym access and free lessons.
