But the five-bedroom, 11,000-square-foot home also stands out to the highest standards of green design and recently became the most expensive home sold in the upscale Irvine Terrace neighborhood. The steel, concrete, and glass home was changed hands on May 3 for $19.5 million, plus $1 million for arts and furnishings.

When it hit the market in 2019, it sought $22 million. The price fell in 2020 to $19.995 million, closing at $19.5 million for the property. MLS shows that the price exceeds the record sales of $10.5 million for another home in Irvine Cove in October 2020.
Unlike the previous sales record holder built in 2018, this home is not a new home.
Completed in 2010, it spans three levels and can be accessed by staircase or commercial elevator.
An entry bridge paved with Jerusalem stone and backlit blue glass leads to the interior. There, skylights and glass walls set the open floor plan glowing, and coastal views of Newport Harbor with Catalina Island in the distance.
Grounds include an infinity-edge pool, spa, and a full outdoor kitchen with wood-burning pizza oven.

All powered by a 26.5 kW solar array, 100% water treatment system and a 38 watt backup generator with built-in fuel supply that can run emergency functions for several days.
In 2011, it was awarded LEED Platinum certification by the US Green Building Council, Director of Communications Deisy Verdinez confirmed in an email.
But the listing claims it is “one of the largest private residences in all of North America to achieve LEED Platinum certification?”
That “might make it difficult to confirm fully,” Ferdinez added.
As I explained, the Green Building Council uses total area in square feet to calculate volume. The scale is used for planning and budgeting in construction and for setting benchmarks for operations and maintenance. It is measured from the outside of the outer walls and includes all the space inside.
“Based on the information provided to us, we see the boom is 1,032 square feet, which is a very common size for a private home and nowhere near the top of the list for the largest homes with LEED platinum certification,” she wrote.
