“Consumers, more than ever before, are making luxury purchases with cryptocurrency, and introducing cryptocurrency as a form of payment allows Equinox to continue to meet their community wherever they are – digitally and physically – to support members’ high-performance lifestyles,” a spokesperson said. Customers will be able to use the cryptocurrency to purchase Equinox’s $4,045 annual access membership and $4,545 annual destination membership. Both plans include a $500 start-up fee and 4.5% New York City sales tax.
A full annual membership gives access to 80 Equinox clubs across the United States, including all seasons and amenities. Meanwhile, Destination membership includes exclusive access to all Equinox fitness and destination locations and gyms around the world.
The payment method is provided through a partnership with BitPay, the world’s largest provider of bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services. Accepted cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Rolled Bitcoin, Sheba Ino Coin, Binance USD, Dai, Gemini Dollar, Pax Dollar and USD Currency.

To take advantage of this feature, prospective members must obtain a pre-approved BitPay ID before checking out on the Equinox website. During payment, customers will choose BitPay as the payment method. Once you enter the BitPay payment window, the exchange rate of the cryptocurrency against the US dollar is locked for 15 minutes.
Equinox and BitPay are not responsible for any changes in exchange rates when payment is not completed within the first 15-minute period or in connection with any refund permitted under the terms of the Equinox Membership Agreement. Any US dollar amount will be refunded only the equivalent of the original US dollar value of the payment and will be issued via a check mailed to the customer’s address on file.

In addition to Equinox, AMC Entertainment currently accepts cryptocurrency to purchase online movie tickets and franchises, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. In December, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the electric car maker would accept Dogecoin for some of its goods. Fidelity also announced that it will offer digital asset accounts with its 401(k) plans, allowing clients to invest a portion of their the retirement Save on bitcoin.
