    location: Beverly Hills, California

    price: 19.999 million dollars

Surrounded by a wall of trees, this spacious California residence offers eye-catching architecture with resort-like seclusion in the middle of Beverly Hills.

“It literally feels like you are in a resort, but you are only a 2 minute drive from [heart of] Beverly Hills,” listing agent Adi Perez described from the agency.

Built in 1924, the dwelling was later renovated by esteemed architect William S. Beckett, who designed the Charleston Heston residence for a long time. In 2015, the house was the subject of a sensitive remodel, which sought to modernize the property for the 21st century. The result is a home that respects the past as much as it honors the present.

“The house has this energy and allure that you don’t get in other homes. You cannot repeat it again,” Mr. Perez said of the residence’s unique architectural design.

The residence rests on approximately one acre of the property, and spans over 12,000 square feet of interior space.

Inside, the home’s history is alluded to with unique personal touches that hark back to the lives of its previous owners. Mr. Perez noted that in addition to a “wine cellar from the 1950s”, the residence includes “an original safe from the 1920s” and “signatures from [previous] Owners are all over the house.”

These touches live in tandem with a modern interior that is both simple and dramatic. Here, recessed lighting illuminates the polished white floors that support the towering white walls, intentionally contrasting with the gray stone on the opposite walls. Meanwhile, another elongated wall is made up of thousands of vertical wooden blocks, which warm the interior with an impressionist palette of natural textures and muted colours.

This penchant for patterns carries over to the home’s exterior, where a recurring zigzag of lawn winds through polished patio tiles. Nearby, there is an infinity pool set in the shade of thick trees.

Surprised by the house’s architectural history and ideal location, Mr. Perez concluded simply, “It’s very unique.”
