How to prepare a target wedding registry

What is the best part about marriage? If you answer with “make an eternal commitment to the person I love most in the world,” sorry, but no. Well, I’m kidding, but it’s undeniable that gifts are a great perk too! Creating a target wedding registry is a great place to start. We all know Target has tons of useful and stylish household products, and you can add items from other retailers to keep everything organized in one place.

It’s also important to know what to add to your wedding registry – and what not to add at all. Sarah Margulis, CEO and co-founder of Honeyfund, put the spotlight on that for us. “Couples should not add items for personal use, such as a luxury hair dryer or Botox treatments,” she explained. For the store’s registry, she recommends sticking with traditional items used to serve family and guests, “like a nice casserole or kitchen appliance.”

Target’s partnership with Honeyfund is also a great way to get help financing the honeymoon, the wedding itself, or the night after the wedding. Margulis only recommends being specific about where the money is headed. “For a honeymoon registry, be sure to include the individual costs of your trip so guests know how the money will be used,” she says. For example, $120 for a romantic dinner.

Now, let’s roll with the basics of setting up a target wedding registry, then delve into more of the good things that can come with it.

Creating a target wedding registry is very simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get started and customize it to your liking.

    1. Go to the target wedding registration page.
    2. Click the Create Record button and log in to the existing target account or create an account.
    3. Enter your name and the name of your partner and decide if you would like them to be able to contribute to the registration. If so, you will need to provide their email.
    4. Fill in your wedding date, be it domestic or international, and the specific city and state/country where you will be located.
    5. Provide an address for gifts they will be shipped to if they are not presented at the wedding.
    6. Select whether you want the record to be private or public.
      • Public Registry allows your loved ones to search the Target website for your history. It also gives permission for Target to share information like your name, email address, wedding date, etc. with its affiliates like The Knot, Honeyfund, and MyRegistry.
      • The private history can still be shared directly with your loved ones.
      • You can change your choice of either of these at any time in your recording settings.
    7. Create a nice and easy to remember custom URL. This will appear at the end of the link and is easy to share with others.
      • You can also skip this and have the target generate a random URL. You can always create a custom one later if you’re not feeling creative during the setup process.
    8. Your registry is now ready to start adding products!

Target offers a handy wedding registry checklist with suggestions for kitchen, dining, home décor, and more. You can also save products from other websites instead of creating multiple listings across retailers. They have a bookmark that you can add to your browser and you can use while browsing other websites. Find this section on your history home page:

Despite this, some retailers operate easier than others. For example, adding a Walmart product comes naturally, but for some reason, Bed Bath and Beyond appears to be a bit tricky at the time of this writing.

The registry will automatically sort things into categories based on price, whether it’s a bargain, and what items can be obtained from the store that day (helpful for procrastinators on the guest list). You can also edit all the items you added in the My History section. Be sure to add notes or mark items as ‘WANTED’!

Are you looking for pricey products like the KitchenAid Professional 5-Quart Stand Mixer, but don’t want to sound greedy? A goal wedding registry makes it easy for many people to contribute to high-dollar items.

You’ll also be able to track who bought what, whether you sent a thank-you note after the wedding, and get free returns without looking for a receipt.

Great news: Target automatically adds gift card options to each wedding registry. If you’d like to make sure it’s additional—or include gift card options from other retailers like Amazon or Walmart—you can use Target’s registration tag to add it.

Honeyfund offers a large number of gift cards for things like hotels, airlines, ride companies, and other businesses. You can also set up specific fundraisers, such as a honeymoon fund, wedding fund, cooking class, date night, or general flexible fund.

Does Target give a discount on wedding registry items?

If you notice items left on your registry after the wedding, Target offers a coupon to buy those at 15% off. Psst: You can also add items to your history after the event and still use the coupon for it. It can be combined with other Target Circle offers, RedCard discounts, and used for gift cards (but only up to 10 of those). The voucher expires 6 months after the wedding date.

Of course, Target has a long list of products excluded from the discount, including Apple, Beats, various toys, food, and more (you can read them all on the Target Wedding Registry FAQ page). There are still plenty of goodies you can get with the coupon.
