Inside the charming 19th century beach house designed by Elizabeth Bach

After serving the same family for 20 years, this Long Island property needed a serious upgrade. The house, a charming beach house, is simply no longer large enough to accommodate its owners and their growing clan. The clients wanted to build additional rooms where their children could stay with their families when they visited. Therefore, they resorted to Elizabeth Bash Interiors & Antiques To achieve their goal of making their home – originally constructed in the 19th century – more comfortable and accommodating, while still maintaining its old charm.

At approximately 5,400 square feet, the updated home — once a patchwork of several small separate rooms — now contains a series of large, bright common spaces, as well as a modern kitchen and five updated en suite bedrooms. Extensive landscaping included adding a variety of perennials and annuals to the mature plants already in the expansive gardens. Incorporating elements from the client’s French heritage, Bash blended old and new to transform the dwelling into a joyful, new yet functional space that generations of the family can enjoy for years to come.

“The backyard is designed, but not too pleasing and trim. Like the interior, we’re meant to be ‘lived in’ and enjoyed,” Bash says. The beachfront’s blue and white anchors the lush green lawn, making the outdoor space a welcome location for sandy feet and family barbecues after a long day at the beach.
