Inside the dining room of Houston’s Kenny & Ziggy

“Excitement” may not be the right word for the reception given to a former national security adviser and UN ambassador, but Ziggy Gruber, owner of Kenny & Ziggy, was happy to welcome John Bolton to his restaurant in Houston on Monday.

While there, the former Trump administration official dined in Schmouz’s room. Yes, Kenny & Ziggy’s has a private dining area called “The Bedroom”, and we were eager to see what the other notables had eaten there.

Unfortunately, Bolton’s sandwich order was never disclosed, as Gruber couldn’t say much about the politician’s visit, except that he came for a lunch meeting, ordered at a deli and was adjourned to Schmooze’s room to eat and talk.

However, Gruber posted a photo with Bolton on his Instagram, saying that the deli has welcomed all kinds of celebrities and politicians of all parties over the years: “The only thing they all agree on is how good our food is!”

The Schmooze Room inside Kenny & Ziggy’s was revealed in 2009, 10 years after the opening of the New York-style Delicatessen in Houston’s Galleria. The private dining room is designed for events, meetings and celebrations.

“When we were planning to open Kenny & Ziggy’s over 20 years ago, we thought having a private room in the deli would be good for the community, businesses and charities to have a place where they could gather for meetings, fundraisers, and private life cycle events,” Gruber said. Schmooze room many different and interesting people and events to the restaurant.”

In January, Kenny & Ziggy’s moved its street location to 1743 Post Oak Boulevard, and with it, the Schmooze Room. The private area now seats a total of 100 people, up from 60, and includes an adjoining patio area.

Several important people chatting in the private deli room, from first-menu listeners to “Who’s this again?” Figures.

Former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal is among the most famous people who wandered through the entrance to Schmooze’s room, when Houston hosted the Super Bowl in 2017. Food celebrity Guy Fieri filmed an episode of “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” there and eats with his family sometimes. The travel program host Samantha Brown also visited.

Musical artists such as Frankie Valli and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top; And more entertainers were all in Schmooze’s room, according to Gruber. You also have the leading hitters in the arts, including novelist John Grisham, composer Stephen Sondheim, and members of the musical cast of “The Lion King” and “Hamilton.” Two weeks ago, The Daily hosted Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s son, James Ginsburg, as part of the Houston Holocaust Museum’s exhibition “The Infamous RPG,” in honor of his mother.

And former National Security Adviser Bolton is not the only politician who has spoken out on Kenny and Zighy. First Lady Barbara Bush visited, as well as former Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.
