LHF is a national Aboriginal-led charitable organization that has been promoting recovery and reconciliation in Canada for over 22 years. LHF’s goal is to educate and raise awareness about the history and intergenerational effects of the residential and day school systems and the aftermath of the 1960s on Aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, and Colored) survivors, their descendants, and their communities to promote hope and healing in Canada. The Fund works to encourage people to address discrimination and injustice in order to contribute to equality, dignity and respectful treatment of indigenous peoples and to promote reconciliation.

The LHF has over 25 educational exhibits that promote awareness of Aboriginal history that can be borrowed for free and make the exhibits available online. The LHF also has a curriculum for K-12 and for adults, along with activity guides, workshops, training, and podcasts, all aimed at educating Canadians about Aboriginal history, the common history of residential and day schools, the scoop of the 1960s, etc. To develop empathy and understanding in order to eliminate racism against indigenous peoples.
