Lick Paint was launched in the United States to lift the mood with color

Here’s a confession: I’ve been avoiding painting my living room years. Even with new furniture or decorative touches, I convinced myself that the not-so-stylish color of my walls (something that garnered approval for light peach paint) could be remedied with low-rise upgrades. I bought huge art prints and created a gallery wall to hide the color. The warm color made my space feel cluttered and frankly, outdated, even after rearranging the room and buying new furniture. So, when Tash Bradley, head of interior design at Lake, reached out to give me a color advice, I seized the opportunity.

Lick offers a hand-picked selection of high-quality paints and wallpapers to suit every personality—not to mention endless inspiration, community, and in-depth consultations on how to paint your home a color that suits your style and isn’t ugly to the eye for your guests.

The brand’s popularity grew in the UK when it was first launched during the pandemic. With everyone staying indoors, pretty much all you can do is watch the paint dry – so it’s no surprise that so many people have been inspired to update their home’s color palette. Fortunately, Lick has made his way to the States since then, so his living room makeover can officially happen!

“Decorating can be very daunting,” says Bradley, a trained psychologist (who happens to be married to the brand’s founder, Sam Bradley) — “Our main goal is to make decorating really fun, accessible, and easy. We help you throughout. Your Journey. I want our interior designers to be excited about being able to turn their home into a home they love.”

Bradley’s major in color psychology is at the core of the brand’s mission: to help you understand how colors affect a place. “It’s not just about saying, ‘Choose this white paint.’

To start the process, Tash and I made a 30-minute FaceTime call to walk around my house and help her better understand my personality and design goals. I really felt comfortable talking to her about her painting issues, and how much I hated the peach color of the living room walls. “Warm tones make a room feel more intimate and comfortable, and bring everything in it,” she advised. “If you choose a fresher color, it will make the space feel lighter and airy.”

After seeing my navy blue sofa and antique bohemian rug, Bradley realized that the cohesive walls didn’t fit the welcoming vibe I wanted the space to radiate. Suddenly her eyes lit up and she screamed, “I want you to show me where the light comes from through your window.” As I sat on the sofa to show her how the sunlight crept into the room, she smiled and said, “I know what to do!”

Tash has put together a visual list of recommendations showing hues handpicked from Lick’s spectrum of 124 paint colors. I gazed at the presentation with anticipation, excited to see the possibilities of my living room. She provided not only six color suggestions, but also the amount of paint I would need. (One Lick color cannot be confused with another—”no shade is lighter or darker,” Bradley explains—which prevents color paralysis, as “you want one blue and experience 1,000 variations instead,” she notes.)

I enlisted friends and family to help me decide on the best color scheme for a space—and once I settled on a color scheme, Lick sent me a complete paint kit, complete with a step-by-step guide and all the tools and accessories I’d need, from recycled bamboo brushes and rollers to cane pulp trays and dusting boards. biodegradable. As a bonus, Tash has included a plate for my kitchen!

“What you never want is to make the room feel disconnected from the other rooms in the house,” she asserts. “You want to have a beautiful flow to create harmony.”

Lick is the perfect resource for any decorator who fears commitment, a DIY lover in need of an expert opinion, or a budding designer looking to hone their decorating skills. (Scrolling through the brand’s Instagram feed will help boost your color confidence!)
