Meghan and Harry’s Santa Barbara home is ‘sprawling and luxurious’ – a ‘transformation of royalty’

Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 40, live in Montecito, Santa Barbara on a £11m property. They’ve conducted zoom calls, interviews, and filmed sketches in their California home, to show royal fans inside their new home. Deepa Mehta Sagar, interior designer, interior designer and founder of Area Decor LLC spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about Duke and Sussex’s interior design, and what this says about their tastes and personalities.

The expert spoke about the recurring themes in Meghan and Harry’s home in terms of interior design, and whether they were likely the influences of Meghan or Harry.

Diba said: “A recurring theme in Meghan and Harry’s Santa Barbara home are the country-style interiors punctuated by Mediterranean elements and wood-beamed ceilings.

“These design elements were also seen in their former residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

There is plenty of white and gold interiors inside the Sussexes’ house, which is evident from their zoom interviews.

What does this reveal about the couple’s tastes and/or personalities?

Diba continued, “The natural tones of linen create a calming sense of comfort or ease in their new space.

“The beige/cream/white interiors exemplify simplicity, while subtle gold accents add a touch of exclusivity.

“Overall, the color palette gives their home an inviting, warm and serene spatial layout.

    do not miss:

Perhaps the muted tones reflect Meghan’s elegant, minimalist aesthetic.

“She looks polished yet effortless, which is exactly reflected in Meghan’s wardrobe choices as well.

“While the use of wood detailing is a reflection of Harry’s taste the use of wood is seen in Frogmore and is often seen in royal residences.”

How different is their home on the inside from the traditional royal homes in the UK where Harry grew up?

Diba commented, “Their home in Santa Barbara exudes luxury.

“The clean, serene color palette, with subtle detailing, brings the home in tune with their new lifestyle, as they step away from life as members of the royal family.

They are sprawling and luxurious, much like traditional royal homes, but what sets them apart is their contemporary style.

Harry’s childhood home – Apartments Eight and Nine in Kensington Palace – reflects Lady Diana’s personal style.

‘Her character – her love of bold patterns and rich fabrics – surfaced even as Lady Diana honored the building’s 17th-century history.

“opulence and grandeur were seeped into the decor and furnishings, befitting royalty.”

Does the couple seem happy with their home – does it reflect their hard work and their newfound independence?

Diba said: “Their home speaks of a quiet independence that suits their transition from ownership and the protocols associated with it.

“The new home is dedicated to ensuring a good parenting for their two children.

“Having preserved some key design elements from Frogmore to the aesthetic, they ensured a sense of belonging and ease of family transition.”
