New HomeJab study shows impact of COVID-19 on real estate agent marketing spending trends

Study reveals stark geographic differences in real estate photography orders

Sherry Hill, New JerseyAnd the March 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — A new study of real estate imaging data from HomeJab finds a significant geographic difference in how much marketing dollars pre-pandemic agents spent on listings and how much they spent getting out of the peak of the COVID-19 outbreak.

HomeJab, which provides real estate agents with on-demand professional real estate photography, 3D virtual tours, aerial visual production services, and other visual production services in every major US market and all 50 states, studied more than 43,000 real estate photography assignments from 2017 to 2021 in five regions: West Central, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and West.

    New HomeJab research found:

    • Real estate agents in the West, Northeast, and Midwest are spending more on real estate registration photography services to get out of the pandemic than they did before the pandemic began:
      • West: nearly 9% (8.7%)
      • Northeast: +7.5%
      • Midwest: +5.6%
    • Real estate agents in the Southwest and Southeast have either spent more or less modestly on real estate listing photography services since the pandemic began:
      • Southwest: -0.6%
      • Southeast: +2.8%
    • Nationally, the average request for property listing photography services is 5.9% higher than post-pandemic requests, and is now an average $229 per request.
    • Real estate agents in the West spend more on listing photography services, on average $279 per request.
    • Midwest real estate agents spend the lowest average $ 200 per request, or nearly 40% less than real estate agents in the West.
    • Real estate agents in the Northeast spend the second least, on average $225 Command.
    • The average spending of real estate agents in the Southeast and Southwest on the average real estate photography services listed for real estate $229 And the $235respectively.

He said, “It is clear that requests for professional real estate photography by real estate agents have remained a vital marketing investment in many of the hottest markets during the COVID-19 outbreak.” Joe Jeswell, founder and CEO of HomeJab. “Our research shows that while homes have been flapping off shelves and many offerings hitting a new level, agents still understand the power of visuals for their real estate marketing,” Jeswell added.

The HomeJab study also examined trends in all 50 states and found:

    • Notable ‘blue states’* show significant increases in marketing spending for property listing photography services since the pandemic began, including:
      • New York: +27.9%
      • Massachusetts: +18.5%
      • California: +9.7%
      • Illinois: +7.7%
    • Notable ‘red states’* show decreases or modest increases in marketing spending for property-listed photography services since the pandemic began, including:
      • South Carolina: -23.4%
      • North Carolina: -16.5%
      • Texas: -0.1%
      • Florida: + 6.3%

For Jeswell, the fact that prominent red states spend less than that came as no surprise. He noted that “the ban on open houses happened faster and lasted longer in the blue states.” “Red states weren’t dependent on 3D tours and other imaging services that helped remote buyers buy homes. Blue buyers and sellers say they seem to need these services,” he added.

Another recent HomeJab study revealed that COVID-19 has significantly impacted the popularity of 3D video/snapshots for new real estate listings.
