The Retreat Yourself series offers free fitness classes

    Now that the winter and the warm weather is over, it’s the time of year when people start thinking more about fitness, getting out of the house, and engaging in more activities. This is even more true in 2022, as the pandemic looks to be over, and people aren’t worried about leaving the house.

    With that in mind, Corona Beer sponsors the Retreat Yourself series for those in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, offering 36 free fitness-related appointments, such as yoga, boxing, and fitness.

    For example, DC’s Flow Yoga Center is offering a free Vinyasa Flow class from 5 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. on Friday, March 18 in their studio at 1508 14th Street NW with instructor Camryn Bickham.

    “We can’t wait to welcome people into our wonderful plant-filled, light-filled studios and share the healing benefits of yoga,” says Debra Berelson-Michalov, creative director and founder of the studio. “We believe people will love the Vinyasa Flow classes we have curated specifically for this community. By the end of the class, participants will feel stronger, inside and out.”

    By the time people reach their final state, the savanna, she adds, they will be ready to soak it all in, relax and let all the stress melt away.

    On Sunday, March 20, VIDA Fitness Balston will host a class of SweatBox at 4040 Wilson Blvd. , in Arlington from noon to 1 p.m., where Gwen Broerman leads a high-intensity interval training class.

    Dance enthusiasts will enjoy Zumba with instructor Jeniza Simos at VIDA City Vista, 445 5th St., NW, on Wednesday, March 23 from 5:45 PM to 6:45 PM; On March 24, Balance Gym Thomas Circle at 1339 Green Court NW will offer some rooftop yoga; And Monday, March 28, Onelife Fitness Fort Totten will hold a class at Club Strength at 5198 South Dakota Ave. NE from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM

    Several events have already taken place and the spring fitness season craze has begun, and this is an exciting time for the participants.

    Jess Berno, Founder and Chief Inspiration Officer at Yoga Heights DC, with three districts in the county (3506 Georgia Ave NW, 255 Carroll St NW, and 905 U St.) hosted a free class at each location and participated in the event which was a great way to get people to start their fitness routine physical again.

    “As a small business, it was a great way to get the word out to DC, that we are open and excited to welcome people back to our yoga studios,” she says. “The people who attended the yoga class were great. For many, this was the first class they had attended the studio for two years, so it was a great way to experience the magic of yoga in the studio setting.”

    While two locations offer standard yoga fare, those who took the class at the U St. Enjoy the exciting and fun experience of Aerial Yoga – a yoga and exercise class like no other.

    “This year, perhaps more than ever, there is a sense of re-emergence and starting fresh with spring,” Pierno says. “Finally, returning to a fitness and wellness routine brings people joy, stress relief, and a sense of community.”

    Then there’s Club Pilates Tyson’s Corner at 1521 Boyd Pointe Way in Vienna, which hosted a Pilates class mixed with cardio.

    “I love the fact that we were able to be a part of something so big, obviously still going on, and we were happy to bring this to the community,” says Clarissa Shepherd, general manager of the studio. “I took an interest in the music in class, enjoyed some fun music and everyone was They are having a great time.”

    Having been in the fitness business for a while, Shepherd knows that by March many people have already given up on those New Year’s resolutions to get fit, recognizing with the upcoming nice weather and savings in the daylight here, and now is the perfect time for people to participate in Any fitness class.

    “I encourage people to look at the remaining classes and continue to achieve their fitness goals,” she says.
