Wiesbaden, Germany – “They are changing people’s lives in a very active way.”

This is how Maria Diaz, a former fitness coordinator in Wiesbaden and now Director of Marketing for the Wiesbaden Family and MWR, describes the work of the team of therapists and coaches at the Sports and Fitness Center.

Now, with the addition of certified gym trainer Julia Spellman, the local fitness aggregator has another professional asset to help clients overcome any physical challenges while searching for the best approach to fitness and overall health.

“They have full capacity,” Diaz said, explaining that the athletic trainer expands the fitness center’s ability to serve community members and help them “stay fit and flexible.”

“This is her niche. She is good at designing programs to help with running and providing various techniques to ensure injury prevention,” Diaz said. “She can tailor the entire exercise – from start to finish.”

Spielmann, who joined the staff after accompanying her military husband to Wiesbaden last fall, explained that she has been in the field since 2015. “I’ve worked in clinical settings, face-to-face, rehab, and worked in high school, with company health And in Texas at Fort Hood.”

The Wisconsin native earned her bachelor’s degrees in athletic training from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and is currently enrolled in concurrent master’s and doctoral programs.

“I specialize in injury prevention and biomechanics,” said Spielman, explaining that her focus would be “helping regular athletes get back to doing what they want to do.

“Being in a military environment, I feel like I can bridge a gap — address acute and chronic issues. I love helping people get through pain and injury,” she said. “I want to help them get through it and get to the other side.

She added, “We have such a unique setting here, where we provide co-operative care.”

Spellman said her goal is to reach all members of the local population she serves — military units and high school students — anyone looking for help with a fitness issue or looking for ways to enhance their fitness routine. “I plan to be available if people need immediate care – to help them get back into sports faster. If people have an injury and they don’t know what to do, I want to be that person to help them.”

Diaz said that having such a wide range of health and fitness services in the fitness complex in Wiesbaden is unique in Europe.

“We are unique,” she said, “and we want this to spread to the army of Europe.” “While they have massive fitness services in the United States, nobody offers this here yet — comprehensive exercises and fitness programs for our soldiers and civilians.

“I’m excited about this,” Diaz added. “It really is a holistic approach to wellness.”
