Elon Musk struck a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter on Monday. News of the new owner has led to a lot of discussion about who will stay (or return to) the social media app – which is now set to become a privately owned company by the end of this year.
The Tesla CEO and billionaire, who has referred to himself as the “absolute of free speech,” is calling for policies that would favor leaving most tweets and some extremist accounts on the platform — raising the question of what Musk’s ownership of previously suspended users would mean.
Former President Donald Trump, who permanently banned Twitter in the wake of the January 6 attack on the Capitol, said Monday that he would not return to the app, even with Musk being the new owner. Instead, he will officially join his Truth Social app in the coming days, Trump told Fox News Monday.
As of Monday, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin are back on the app.
