Weekend possibilities | Parkville Brewfest, Okoye Celebrity Roast, and “Friends of Dorothy” at Gem Theater

    This weekend features plenty of live music and the Parkville Brewfest and festivals in Waldo and Brookside.

    Friday April 29

    5 – 9 pm The Brookside Art Annual of 2022 is back in 63rd Street and Brookside Street. This weekend festival offers all kinds of artist booths, vendors, arts and crafts, and games for kids, as well as some of Brookside’s best food and drinks. The annual Brookside Art Festival runs all weekend. There is no entry fee.

    6:30 pm Pack a lawn chair and picnic blanket, Symphony in the Park is the perfect way to welcome a weekend away. Meadowbrook Park, 9101 Nall Ave. , is the venue for the Friday Show in Prairie Village, Kansas. Attendance for outdoor chamber music from KC Symphony is free. All Symphony in the Park events allow weather conditions.

    7 pm Local music will be shown on Friday night at Velo Garage and Tap House, 1403 Swift St. Swipe or pedal to a beer store and pizza stop in North Kansas City for tunes from Kat King, Miki P, and MUSICBYSKIPPY. The cap is $10.

    Saturday 30th April

    10 AM – 5 PM Saturday’s Faldo Spring Fling Opening takes place in the parking lot just off the trolley lane, near the intersection Warnal Road and Gregory Street. The spring-inspired festival in partnership with the Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair will feature plenty of local pop-up businesses, plus local makers, fun for the whole family and more. Attending The Waldo Spring Fling is free.

    10 AM – 7 PM Get an artistic view of the landscape across KC’s Historic Northeast with this free, self-guided, weekend Northeast Artist Open Studio Tour. The tour begins at The EGG: Art and Business Incubator, 2659 Independence Ave. , with works on display from local artists, plus beer from Crane Brewing, snacks, and space to create some of your own artwork. From there, the tour continues to four studio spaces for work, all within a 10-minute drive of The EGG.

    11 AM – 8 PM Saturday is Independent Libraries Day and Westport wise blood, 4045 Broadway Blvd. She has plans to celebrate. Your local bookstore will have exclusive items for sale, as well as limited-edition swag, giveaways, and used book drop.

    1-5 pm More than 70 breweries and home brewing clubs will be established and hundreds of beers poured into them English landing gardenMcAfee St., 8701. , Saturday afternoon at the Parkville Brewfest 2022. Entry will bring you every beer you can taste, plus a commemorative glass and hours of live music. Tickets $45 in advance and $55 at the gate. Plan ahead, designated drivers get free. Be sure to check out the full list of participating online breweries.

    Sunday 1 May

    2 pm Proud and True, a free Sunday afternoon concert at National Museum and World War I Memorial, 2 Memorial Drive, designed to provide the public with an understanding of the Great War through music. Curated by students of vocal music from Kansas State University, the music will include original works by soldiers and those influenced by the war, as well as more recent connections to current world events. The show is 40 minutes long and suitable for all ages. RSVP is required.

    4 pm Okoye Celebrity Roast on Sunday and tickets are still available. Join the former Christian President of Kansas City “The Nigerian Nightmare” Okoye at VooDoo Lounge at Harrah’s North Kansas City, 1 Riverboat Drive, for unfiltered jokes aimed directly at fellow former legend Chiefs and NFL Hall of Famer Bobby Bell. The guest list includes former footballers and celebrities. The Okoye Youth Sports Club of Nigeria will benefit from the proceeds of the evening. Tickets are $200.

    4 – 6 pm Friends of Dorothy: Judy Garland at 100 is a one-night-only celebration of the famous actress from Mid America Freedom Band Kansas City. Reserve your place in the historical Jewels Theatre, 1615 E. 18th Street, where the band will play a selection of their favorite out-of-the-land of Oz tunes, such as “Variations on Over the Rainbow,” “Defying Gravity,” and “Ease on Down the Road.” Tickets are $10.
