BestReviews presents the most popular fitness product trends of the year

    (collective call) –

Although jogging, biking and frisbee rank highly as the best seasonal get their blood pumping, this year many people are looking for new activities and products that will keep them motivated to keep moving.

Jacob Palmer of BestReviews joins Gary Gelfand and Scott Moak of “Studio40 Live” to share the best fitness trends worth exploring this season. Palmer explains that most people are looking for products that get them on their feet.

Fitness trackers continue to trend as the leading fitness investment. Not only are there dozens of models on the market that cover all types and needs of users, but they are becoming more accessible and capable.

Palmer says the Fitbit Charge 5 is the latest Fitbit model that helps people get extra motivation to “get up and get active.” Besides tracking steps and reminding users to move after long periods of sitting, it improves workouts by tracking heart rate, calories burned, and active zone minutes. The Fitbit Charge 5 also comes with a free six-month trial of Fitbit Premium which unlocks access to personal insights and hundreds of workout videos and how-tos.

For anyone who’s exploring new outdoor activities this season, Palmer says that basketball is one of the most exciting. “It is very popular now. Even if you want to play tennis, your court may turn into a tennis court now.” Palmer explains that pickle ball is a mix of table tennis, tennis and badminton — but it also has some “weird rules” that keep players on their toes.

Part of the allure of Pickleball is its affordability to play. Pickleball starter sets, usually recommended for new players, include two basic paddles and a ball for about $50. On the other hand, experienced and competitive players are often drawn to specialized pickle ball racquets that cost upwards of $100. No matter what level of experience — or which pickle ball rackets you use — the goal is to “get out there and give it a shot,” Palmer says.

Besides the fun and new activities that should keep you moving, Palmer says many people are looking for recovery products that help them relax after hard workouts. Massage guns, which have become very popular in the past few years, use percussion or vibration therapy to relax stiff muscles and stimulate blood flow around them. It also falls under the category of self-care and stress-relieving devices.

Although the Theragun Pro remains the top choice in the space, especially among elite athletes, its $600 price tag isn’t for everyone. However, Palmer says there are many more affordable alternatives worth considering, such as the AirLife percussion pistol. It retails for about $200 and includes four attachments similar to those included with premium massage guns. And if you’re looking to save more on the iReliev rifle, Palmer says it’ll go on sale often.

For anyone wondering what fitness trackers, play ball equipment, and massage guns have in common, it boils down to this season’s all-encompassing fitness theme: Stand on your feet. Each one plays an important role in keeping people active or helping them achieve their fitness goals. “Movement is the name of the game,” Palmer says.
