It may seem impossible, but you can make a small bedroom look amazing – and fit all your needs – with a little smart planning. Here are seven tips from the experts to make your small space feel completely spacious, without spending a fortune.

    Keep planning simple

When working with a small space, Karen Gutierrez, interior designer at Mackenzie Collier Interiors, a full-service residential and commercial interior design firm with offices in Phoenix and Portland, Oregon, said less is better.

“Keep the items as functional and valuable as possible,” she said. “The bedroom is a place to relax.”

Therefore, she said that the presence of a few pieces of furniture in the room will create a calm and relaxing space for relaxation. An added bonus – I noticed a room with low furniture is easier to clean and walk around.

    Bring a lot of lighting

Keeping your space in the dark won’t do you any favors in terms of size. Lighting can make or break a room, Gutierrez said, so getting it right is crucial.

“If you’re dealing with a lack of space, bringing in plenty of light will help expand the room,” she said. “Adding lots of light sources is key to keeping the room open and spacious.”

Maximize space by choosing the Nymane Ceiling Light with Four Spotlights from Ikea, $44.99. Or, if you have a blank surface, the shop’s Solklint table lamp will serve double duty by lighting up the room, while serving as stylish decor.

    Install a small chandelier

Chandeliers are great at any size, so add a small one to your bedroom.

“This attractive bedroom chandelier is perfect for making a statement in any room, and will add a touch of luxury and elegance,” Gutierrez said. “So, if you’re looking for a way to personalize and style your bedroom, this chandelier is the perfect solution without compromising too much on your budget.”

They may look pricey, but small chandeliers can actually be quite affordable. For a traditional vibe, Home Depot offers Edvivi’s brand Amorette One-Light Chrome Mini Chandelier with Crystals for $44.95. A more modern feel, Amazon sells the Dell Modern Sputnik Chandelier, Six-LED Ceiling Light for $49.98.

    Hang long, sheer curtains

A great way to show your personality, Gutierrez said long curtains can add length and drama to any room. She suggested a sheer style, as it provides privacy while allowing natural light to flow through.

“Plus, sheer curtains add a touch of sophistication and elegance to any bedroom,” she added. “They come in different colors and patterns, so you can find the most suitable one to match your decor.”

Elegant and affordable, a single Opalhouse Crushed Sheer Panel costs $20 at Target. More budget friendly, Bed Bath & Beyond simply sells Essential

    Choose multifunctional furniture

Gutierrez said choosing furniture with storage options is an easy way to make your bedroom functional and organized.

Some of the main pieces of furniture to look for when organizing your bedroom are a bed with drawers under it, a headboard with shelves or storage, and a dresser. [and/or] storage
“The bench,” she said. These pieces will help you store your clothes, accessories and
Other belongings in an organized manner and free up space in your bedroom.”

    Add mirrors

You can’t actually make it bigger, but Gutierrez said placing mirrors in a room can give the impression that they cover more square feet than they actually are.

“Mirrors reflect light and give the illusion of more space,” she said. Moreover, they add a touch of sparkle to any room. “

Target sells the Room Essentials Over-the-Door Mirror for $17. Plus, you can get the Umbra Hub Modern & Contemporary Accent Mirror on Wayfair for $57 (currently on sale 39.90).

Use a neutral color palette with accents

You may not realize it, but choosing neutral colors can make your bedroom appear larger. However, Gutierrez said colors are a great way to set a mood, so adding pops of your favorite hues will ensure your space reflects your personality.

“To create the perfect relaxed atmosphere in the bedroom and make the space feel spacious, the lighter colors will make everything less cramped, while still feeling big enough,” she said. “Bring in decorative pieces like pillows, throws, and art to help add colors that can change quickly over time.

“Cost Plus World Market and Ikea both have an assortment of pillows under $20. Target has a ton of blankets under $25 and TJ Maxx has no shortage of wall art for $50 or less” .
