3. Ouarzazate[SEE MAP]
Ouarzazate is a small desert city located south of the High Atlas Mountains. It is known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert and is home to the 19th century Taourirt Kasbah, a massive fortified palace with breathtaking views of the surrounding red mountains. The city has been used as a filming location in many movies.
There are a variety of hotels and small, reasonably priced restaurants to choose from in Ouarzazate. The city’s location also makes it easy to take day trips to nearby attractions like the well-preserved Ait Benhaddou kasbah.
